Chocolate Teff Crepes

Chocolate Teff Crepes

I’ve never really thought of myself as a perfectionist. I always thought of perfectionists as those people with lovely handwriting and Martha Stewart level obsessiveness when it comes to every aspect of their life. I was pondering this because I have become stalled when it comes to this blog, amongst other things. I’m trying to get to the root of this problem and one of the reasons I haven’t been blogging is that I want everything to be perfect. I want what I write to be witty and interesting. I want the photos to be just right, and the recipes […]

Fudgey Teff Brownies

My friend Meg from Sweet Twist of Blogging is about to welcome another adorable little girl to her family! What else should a group of bloggers who have grown a special kinship over the past year do, but host a virtual baby shower for Meg? I hemmed and hawed over what to make for our virtual party. I even thought that maybe I would make something savoury that could be an idea for Meg to make ahead and put in her freezer. Well, I 86’d that idea when my super fun nausea came back to keep me company even though […]

Buckwheat Crepes with Caramelized Pears and Whipped Cream

January 27, 2014 By: Christina1 Comment

One of the great things about being an adult is that nobody will give you shit for eating crepes with sugary pears and whipped cream for dinner. I have been known to also have a bowl of cereal for dinner or, like today, for lunch. Sure, there is some self recrimination that may happen but if you have homemade crepes, or my personal favourite, waffles with strawberries and whipped cream, self recrimination will be easily usurped by great satisfaction. I have been making these crepes a lot lately. Sometimes I’ve served them as dessert with different fruit and lots of […]

Black Raspberry and Cherry Pie with a Gluten Free Crust

July 19, 2013 By: Christina11 Comments

It is Berry Week! I’m joining with some other bloggers to celebrate one of the best parts of summer; berries! I have wanted to get this recipe up on the blog for over a year now but every time I’ve made it, it’s been for a family event so I haven’t been able to get good photos of it for the blog. I’ve made it with a regular crust and a gluten-free crust many times over the past two years. Finally, about a month ago I was able to get some half decent shots of it and I knew that […]

Rhubarb Custard Tart with Buckwheat and Nut Crust (Gluten Free)

Five Reasons Why My Husband Cannot Plan for Dinner Guests On His Own He does not confirm with the person cooking the meal that guests will be coming until the night before. He does not confirm what time people will be arriving. He does not ask if their are any food sensitivity issues. On the day of the dinner he still isn’t sure how many people are coming to dinner. He forgets to serve the dessert when he is left to entertain his guest on his own. Who doesn’t love it when your husband reminds you at 9pm about dinner […]

Simple Gluten-free Buttermilk Buckwheat Waffles

May 12, 2013 By: Christina12 Comments

I hate breakfast in bed. I will happily get out of bed, eat breakfast and then go back to bed but I do not want the challenge of balancing a tray on my bed full of sticky food and hot coffee. If it spills I know I will have to do at least some clean up and that is just not worth it. If you like feeling like an invalid and want to eat in bed, then have at it, but I am firmly on #TeamBreakfastAtTables. I wouldn’t say I’m a waffle aficionado, but I really love waffles. I tolerate pancakes, […]

Gluten Free Sugar Cookie Sandwiches with Dulce De Leche

April 7, 2013 By: Christina2 Comments

I love how beautifully decorated sugar cookies look, but I don’t eating the Royal Icing. To me it is just sweet with no real flavour. When I made the GF gingerbread cookies at Christmas I only ate the cookies plain. The picky eater in me is alive and well. When I made these sugar cookies I opted to make them into dulce de leche sandwiches. I confess that I have stood in my kitchen and eaten dulce de leche our of the jar with a spoon. Mind you, I’m not the only one in my house that does this. You […]
