This is a paid post that has been sponsored by Fresh Wines. They provided me with a lovely case of VQA wine to try and to use in the development of this recipe. A couple of weeks ago a miracle happened. I was able to get eight moms together for a weeknight wine tasting session with relatively short notice. Honestly, it happened. When the case of wine arrived from Fresh Wines, I knew that I wanted a bunch of people to get together at my house for a tasting. I’m hardly a social butterfly and I also have a good […]
Savoury Flatbreads with Apples and Crumbled Blue Cheese
This is a paid post sponsored by Ontario Apple Growers. All opinions are my own. There is a familiar scene for many who work from home or are a stay-at-home-mom like I am. We maybe grabbed a quick lunch while we were working or scavenged off of the lunch that we were preparing for the little ones. Who among us parents haven’t eaten some macaroni and cheese straight out of the pot with a fork when naptime was barreling down on us? We catch ourselves in the middle of the day getting mighty hangry. It is this time of day […]
Peppered Sour Cherry & Goat Cheese Tarts
I picked up my eldest son the other night because he had managed to turn himself upside down in bed and I needed to set him back on his pillow, tucked under the covers. Long gone is that big toddler boy that I had for a while and in his place is a gangly little boy who seems to be made up of long arms and legs. I have no desire for him to stop growing up because each stage in his life is something I look forward to. I do struggle to hold on to those moments and memories with […]
Brown Butter Popcorn
I’m going to make a very bold statement about this popcorn: it is better than movie theatre popcorn. Even if I’ve had a big meal, I still get the popcorn when I go see a movie, with the real butter. Layered. I’m serious about butter on popcorn but now that I have discovered the simple beauty of air-popped popcorn with a generous amount of brown butter, I will be saving a lot of money since I won’t be pulled to the movies by a crazy popcorn craving. Timothy absolutely loves this popcorn. He eats more of it than I do […]
Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts
This recipe is a favourite from my childhood. It was a pretty popular hors d’oeuvres in the ’80s and my mom would make them often. She would make some extra for my sister and me. For a picky eater, it was odd that I loved these so much. I think my mom would make them in the oven when we had guests but she would also make them in the microwave. We had a big Panasonic microwave that came with a cookbook. On the cover of the cookbook were an assortment of all the wonderful food you could cook in the […]
Tapenade Puff Pastry Pinwheels
I have made this little appetizer several times for different occasions. I have brought it to book club, a wine tasting party (best kind of party in my book), and most recently to a fun little get together where half of the pinwheels didn’t even make it downstairs to the bar before they were gobbled up. The artichoke and asiago pinwheels do tend to go much faster but I encourage you to try the olive tapenade ones as well. I’m a very picky eater and I wouldn’t pop an olive into my mouth and chomp away but I do quite […]
